Elves

The basic idea for the Elven life cycle comes from the “Speaker of the Dead”, a book by Orson Scott Card. He’s the author of “Ender’s Game”, which was just made into a movie.
I chose this storyline to hopefully create an alien, yet familiar feel for Elves. Hopefully this will give a good reason why Elves act the way they do. Not just like pointy eared humans that are somewhat androgynous, love nature and magic, and live a lot longer than humans.
Elves love the forest because they begin life as trees. Each tree, thru its lifespan of several hundred years produces, for lack of a better term, “acorns”. One every few years. These trees maybe of all different sorts, and that determines what sort of creature is produced from the acorn.
All “sylvan” creatures in the world are produced this way.
They call themselves “Children of the Stars”, as they are not of this world.
On their old world, they began as almost wild creatures, when they emerged from their acorn. As they evolved they began to realize their life cycle and how important the trees were to them. When they die, and are buried, they sprout as a new tree, and begin the cycle anew.
Most trees in the world are not of the Elvish sort.
They arrived in this world from the destruction of their old one. As the Elvish forest engulfed their old world, the roots of some of the mightiest trees bored deep into the planet. The Elves realized this would eventually crack their world causing them to die. Having developed a bio-technology to save themselves, they decided to speed up the destruction and hopefully travel to other worlds.
The Elves created life pods of vast size that could survive their worlds destruction. Like Noah’s ark, each pod contained everything needed to recreate their world’s eco-system on whichever world they found. Accelerating the world’s destruction, the Elves used the massive energy released to propel their life pods at sublight speed towards planets they thought would be suitable for them.
Having knowledge of the energy that flowed thru the universe, the Elves aimed their pods towards those worlds that, like earth, seemed to be alive with it. The Elven world had not been one of those worlds, so magic did not exist there.
After untold millennia, the Elven life pod arrived on Earth.
